Nico Monterosso is a graduate of Demontfort University having studied Product and Furniture Design.

During his time at Demontfort, Nico worked on a verity of briefs ranging from children`s storage and handle design to different competition briefs set by Seymour Powell and RSA awards. Nico`s minor project was shortlisted in the RSA Awards, for which he was invited for an interview at the RSA Offices in London.

For his final major project, Nico chose to focus on Furniture Design.

Tasking Sofa

For this project Nico designed his “Tasking Sofa”, the piece that caught our eye at New Designers.

When asked about his design Nico said – “My final design came about by looking for a simple but elegant solution to aid the way that people use a sofa today, which is not just for sitting but rather a wider range of tasks. I combined modern construction to produce a solid frame which had both Scandinavian and mid-century details”

Nico designed his sofa to aid many different tasks such as working, reading and eating. The sofa itself has split, folding cushions that creates a shorter distance from the edge of the sofa making it more ergonomically effective. To accompany the cushion design the sofa has a swivel out tray, adjustable to suit the users sitting position.

Nico hopes to get funding to help him produce a range of tasking sofas alongside some of his other designs.
